- some users were having issues posting
- the issues are inconsistent. we should be careful with this feature,
perhaps even log details of what went wrong when the error for this
is shown and analyze those logs.

...
- this seems to not break anything (that I know of)
- possibly a fix for issue 23, at least for most common cases (there
are other iconv usages still in the code)
